Nihongo Lesson

An example of using RosettaStone Software to study Japanese. The following picture is a screen capture from the software as it looks on my monitor;

  • First you hear the phrase: "hitori ga jitensha ni notte ite, futari ga aruite imasu."
  • Then look to find the picture that fits the phrase.
  • This phrase means: a person is riding a bike and two people are walking.
  • Click on the picture… BingBong! Correct!

This is really helping me out a lot, both for improving my listening skills and building vocabulary. Since it is very visual I tend to remember the vocabulary much better than slogging through a lesson book. You can also toggle off the romaji (roman/arabic text) and turn on either the Kana or Kanji to get the full effect. I can also click on the speaker to hear the audio over and over again to imprint the phrase and words on my little pea sized brain.

So there are two Levels I & II, in each level there are about 10 units with 12 lessons per unit, and then within each lesson there are about 25-30 screens or practice phrases. That means there are 10 x 12 x 30 = 3,600 individual phrases per each Level or over 7,000 alltogether!

Ganbatte Kudasai!… Work hard and you'll succeed!
